Compressed air, controlled by a valve (V1), is forced through a Membrane Separator (G). The resulting flow of nitrogen is 97% pure and is stored in a tank (T). A regulator (R) draws off a low pressure flow of nitrogen to the dewar (D). In the dewar, a closed cycle coldhead (C) cools and liquefies the nitrogen. The liquefaction allows more nitrogen to flow through the regulator into the dewar. As the dewar fills, liquid nitrogen may be drawn off through the transfer line controlled by a drain valve (V2). A level meter turns off the unit when the dewar is full and restarts the system when the level drops to 75% full.
